From the back cover: Hunger for nourishment. Hunger for touch. Hunger to belong.
Half-human and half-faery, Ani is driven by her hungers. Those same cravings also attract powerful enemies and uncertain allies – including Devlin, the assassin who is brother to the faeries’ High Queen. Ani and Devlin are drawn together, but as they grow closer, a larger threat imperils the whole of Faerie. Will saving the faery realm mean losing each other?
The fourth book in Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series is, by far, the best of them all! I was so ready to scream FOUL after Fragile Eternity. I understand now why Fragile Eternity was needed. But back then I was missing the allure, intensity and darkness of the fae that was so apparent in the book previous to that one, Ink Exchange. Well, Radiant Shadows made up for Fragile Eternity in spades, and then some!!!!!!
My disappointment lead me to take my time getting to Radiant Shadows. Thank goodness I had the 2012 TBR Reading Challenge to prod me into picking up this book and finally finishing this series. I think another factor (and yes, call me shallow) might have been the less than stellar cover. The cover is truly Ani. It just didn’t do anything for me.
The story was amazing. I loved Devlin the minute I met him in Fragile Eternity. I was so hoping he would get a HEA (I don’t read summary’s of books ahead). Ani and her sister Tish weren’t that interesting to me before but I was always intrigued with their father, Gabriel, and the Hunt. I can’t say enough how much I love Melissa Marr’s world building in this series. The Hunt was no exception. And Irial never lets me down for his brand of darkness and devotion to his “family”. I love Irial!
But back to the story. Ms. Marr doesn’t write a typical chase story. This one is full quirks, twists and weaves. I thought I knew what was going on with one of the twists of the story but I found out that I really didn’t – and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t what I thought! I can’t say more without spoiling anything!! Just know that Ms. Marr doesn’t hold anything back. If she needs to kill a character, she will.
On Melissa Marr’s website, there’s an awesome scene from near the end of the book that is re-told from Irial’s POV. It’s an important scene and since I love Irial, I’ll eat up anything about him! It’s HERE if you’re interested!
If you like book trailers, then you’ll like this! I’m not usually a fan of these but I actually really liked this one! I love the music and the characters really came close to what I imagined they looked like. Avoid trailers if you still like to imagine your characters 😉 If you have trouble viewing this, it’s also on Melissa Marr’s website on the Radiant Shadows page.
