Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge / Sunday Post

Posted August 18, 2012 in Meme / 17 Comments

HUH?  You’re probably wondering, “What the heck?!?  Just pick a meme and go with it!”

Well, I like promoting other blogs and sharing all the great stuff I read on blogs during the week.  But I also miss seeing all the new books everyone is getting.  I really do love seeing what everyone is reading (what’s hot).

But I can’t just go and make my own feature because that would be stealing the idea from someone, and then someone would get mad, then a post would mention me, then all that someone’s friends will hate me and boycott me, then my head will explode….

Needless to say, I find it daunting to post anything at all these days.

So I decided to bastard-ize my two favorite Sunday/Monday posts.  Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is a Sunday re-cap post started by Amanda at On A Book Bender and Tara at 25 Hour Books.  I can’t even explain how cool these posts are, you just have click on the links above and see how they do it!  I also suggest checking out Smash Attack Reads’ post, she just makes me spit milk out my nose.

Last Sunday I spoke briefly about the Sunday Post meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  I plan to still link up over there because I still NEED to know what everyone is reading (I’m nosey that way).

Last Week On the Blog

I’m still struggling with my blog’s template and with WordPress in general.  I finally got CommentLuv to work but now I think I want Disqus to work.  I actually hate the HUGE pictures at the top of my home page so I changed to a smaller slider so I had to tweak all my photos in Photoshop (best investment I ever made!).  Other details are in the blog now, such as categories and tags in the footer.  I’m getting buttons in slowly.  I’m adding to my blogroll as I go so don’t be disappointed if you don’t see your button on my blog.  It’s just that I don’t have to time to visit blogs, tweak mine, try and write the 12 – 13 reviews I want to write and, OH… READ!

Consistency and I are not best friends yet, but I’ll get there… I hope!!  Now, if I can just come up with a simple template for my reviews, I’ll be totally kosher (a girl can dream, right?).

Around the Blogosphere

  • Smash Attack Reads is a star! ~ I missed Smash’s Clock Rewinders post last week so I had no clue she was going to be posting in Heroes & Heartbreakers’ website but there she was, right there in my newsletter!!  And she’s not just doing a one time thing!!  Check it out!!  And if you don’t subscribe to the awesome newsletter, you should STOP, click on the link a sentence above and sign up.  Then come back and finish reading me…
  • Blogging With Amy helps find free ebooks ~ one of my favorite blog help sites gives advice on how to find free books.  It’s always fun to see how they find the books we already know about 🙂
  • Kim Harrison said on her blog (aka Drama Box) that her Mass Market release of A Perfect Blood (September 25th) will include a chapter re-written from Trent’s POV.  The paperback may or may not have a sample chapter of the next book in her Hollows series, Ever After (January 22, 2013)
  • Check out Profiling Mysteries Week with Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog, On a Book Bender and Reading the Paranormal.  It starts Monday with Classic Mystery.
  • Don’t forget to sign up for Fraterfest Read-a-Thon hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It’s October 5th – 8th.

[text_box class=”grey”] Obviously I didn’t get around much this week, as usual, because of my stupid, cranky template.  I need to buy another one!  I have credit at Themeforest… any suggestions?? [/text_box]

My Stats This Week

To date I’ve read 50 books (I read a total of 77 in 2011 so I’m happy!)

I finished: Defiance by C.J. Redwine

I started: Incarnation by Emma Cornwall

I added to the stupidity I call “Mt. TBR” (why am I on NetGalley?  This is killing me, in a nice way, of course.): Trapped by Kevin Hearne, Ironskin by Tina Connolly and Tab Bennett and the Inbetween by Jes Young.

I graciously received from Rhiannon Frater: Pretty When She Dies and Pretty When She Kills ~ I hope you’re reading Rhiannon Frater!  If not, you really should!

Up Next On the Blog

  • Monday is the last day to enter my giveaway for a pre-order of Alice in Zombieland or a copy of one of Gena Showalter’s other books.
  • Monday I’m going to be sharing the brand new covers for Rhiannon Frater’s Vampire Bride series ~ completely re-done inside and out!!  They’re beautiful (uh, I kind of peeked).
  • I’m sure I’ll have a review or two as well as a Waiting on Wednesday post (hopefully).

Thanks for listening to me ramble!!  Let me know what you think

(please be gentle, I bruise easily).

Right there with ya on having books to read before Trapped! I still have to read Tricked, too!! But the paperback stares at me in my bedroom every day so I won’t forget 🙂

  1. You ROCK. Thanks for the shout out. And your little intro to this post made me giggle. So sad, right? Why can’t we all just GET ALONG.

Pretty When She Dies was rocksauce. I’m starting PWSK today, hopefully. 🙂 HUGE Rhiannon fan!

No, YOU rock! And I’m sure I’m leaving pingbacks all over the freakin’ web with all the links I’m putting in my posts making sure I’m covering all my bases 🙂 Authors are like, “who the hell is this?” hee, hee…

I liked Defiance and so did a lot of other people. As long as you’re not looking for a heavy dystopian element and you like a good fantasy adventure with some lovin’ thrown in (YA-style), you’re good to go! Just remember it’s YA so it’s not terribly deep ~ I saw some reviews that bagged it for missing making a grand statement about woman’s lib, blah, blah, blah…. 😀

  2. Lovely ramble and i think its cool that you combined two memes you love, Eek Gads on all the blog work, it looks good and I am sure you will work it all. Visiting blogs is so important and time consuming. I try to dedicate 30 mins a day..but it isn’t always possible. Thanks so much for being a part of The Sunday Post

ooh..Disqus and comment love will not work together, after researching i went with disqus and am quite happy.

Yeah, but in 30 mins you hit like, what? 25 blogs? You’re stealth-like 🙂

I originally wanted only Disqus comments but I couldn’t get them to work so I added CommentLuv. It was easier to make that plugin work. I’m just thinking that when I have free time (hahahahahaha) I’ll sit and play with Disqus again and dump CommentLuv.

But yeah, my research is coming up that CommentLuv is NOT the way to go, too. Something with SEO… *brain short circuiting*

  3. Hey girl! Missed you on the First Grave read along. Well I see you sre struggling with WP hope that gets better. Crap! I went to enter and the contest is over! Lame! Oh yes, I am about to read some Frater. Rhiannon hooked me up! Looking forward to it. I know I am on a strict NG ban until I get the pile under control! Have a great week!
