I have been waiting and waiting and waiting to share this review with everyone. I signed up to participate in this blog tour because I’ve been hearing nothing but phenomenal things about M. Leighton’s books. Finally, here’s me screaming at the top of lungs, “Go buy this book and read it!!”. But first things first, here’s the details you might want to know first:
About the Book:
The scorching tale of one girl, two brothers and a love triangle…that’s not. Olivia Townsend is nothing special. She’s just a girl working her way through college so she can return home to help her father run his business. She’s determined not to be the second woman in his life to abandon him, even if it means putting her own life on hold. To Olivia, it’s clear what she must do. Plain and simple. Black and white. But clear becomes complicated when she meets Cash and Nash Davenport. They’re brothers. Twins.
Cash is everything she’s always wanted in a guy. He’s a dangerous, sexy bad boy who wants her in his bed at any cost. He turns her insides to mush and, with just one kiss, makes her forget why he’s no good for her. Nash is everything she’s ever needed in a guy. He’s successful, responsicble and intensely passionate. But he’s taken. Very taken, by none other than Marissa, Liv’s rich, beautiful cousin. That doesn’t stop Olivia from melting every time he looks at her, though. With just one touch, he makes her forget why they can never be together.
Black and white turns to shades of gray when Olivia discovers the boys are hiding something, something that should make her run as far and as fast as she can. But it’s too late to run. Olivia’s already involved. And in love. With both of them. Both brothers make her heart tremble. Both brothers set her body on fire. She wants them both. And they want her. How will she ever choose between them?
Like I said, I heard so many phenomenal things about M. Leighton’s books, I pounced when I saw this blog tour announced. Waaaayy back on December 12th, 2012, I received my copy of Down To You for this blog tour. I completely and utterly ate it up and was done with it by the very next day. Granted, it’s not a very long read. But this was such a well written book and a unique story, I never once looked at the “pages” left to the end of the book.
Story / Tempo
The pacing of the story was just perfect. There’s a nice speed to our discovery about the boys, Nash and Cash. And despite the gluttony of New Adult books that have found their ways out onto the books shelves or into our e-readers, this particular one stands out from the crowd for it’s unique perspective and twists and turns to the story. The story is told from three POVs, Olivia, Nash, Cash’s. It’s reading the three sides of the story, along with the twists and turns of the story, that kept me engrossed all the way to very final “page”. Oh, and just maybe some hot lovin’ kept me interested, too. But that would be so obvious of me!
Olivia, our main protagonist, is completely believable in her role as a self-described plain jane who goes to school so she can eventually go back to her father’s farm and help him run his business. Olivia has a bad track record with liking the bad boys for boyfriends so she wants to steer clear of Cash and she tries desperately to do that throughout the book. Being drawn to the very taken Nash doesn’t help matters either because being twins, Cash looks just like Nash.
Ms. Leighton is able to completely sell me on the fact that Olivia can end up in love with both our boys. You’re probably thinking to yourself, “well, that’s just freaking ridiculous!” I will admit here and now that I actually dated two guys at the same time because I couldn’t decide between the rich, popular guy with George Clooney looks and the soulful, poor as dirt, sensitive guy with an absolutely rocking bod. Yeah, it totally came up and bit me in the you-know-where. But I was 24 years old and dumb. It can happen. Ms. Leighton totally sold me on this. And her story and characters are so much better than real life!!
There is only one tiny little “UGH!” in the story but I won’t even mention what it is or where it’s at – it’s so inconsequential and I only remember it because it’s in my notes. Otherwise, this quick, quirky, hot little story is such a fun read.
And there’s already a sequel out to this book. Up To Me (Bad Boys #2) came out earlier this month and I featured it earlier this week. If you go to that post, there’s a giveaway for an ebook of THIS book, Down To You!! Run, run, run…..
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, M. Leighton, is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you’ll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren’t roaming in that direction, she’ll be riding horses, swimming in ponds and experiencing life on a ranch, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.
“I love coffee and chocolate, even more so when they are combined. I’m convinced that one day they could be the basis for world peace. I also love the color red and am seriously considering dying my hair.”
This tour started on Monday of this week and lasts until this Saturday with a ton of stops!
