Sunday Post and a Little Clock Rewinding #11

Posted February 10, 2013 in Meme / 10 Comments

sunday-postClock Rewinders on a Book Binge is a Sunday re-cap post started by Amanda at On A Book Bender and Tara at 25 Hour Books.  It’s a chance to share our love of other blogs.  The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer and it’s a chance to showcase new books and re-cap your week of blogging.

This-week-on-the-blog

It has been quite a long time since I’ve done a Sunday Post.  I don’t like to do these posts if I know I’m not going to have time to get around to everyone else’s blogs to visit and see what everyone else is up to and see all the great books everyone else is getting to review and that they’ve bought.  I really feel woefully behind on what’s hot and happening in the book world!  It’s just as well; I’m still woefully behind on my reads.

To help rectify that situation, I’m cramming in the reading for the next 7 days with the Wicked Valentines Read-A-Thon.  Check out my post to see how I’m doing (if you’re so inclined).

And, if you haven’t noticed, I hired Parajunkee Design to re-do the blog, top to bottom.  I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with my blog over these past 2-ish years so I contacted Parajunkee, begged her to do an avatar for me, saw the complete makeover she did for Fiktshun, and them promptly emailed her again and told her, “just do the whole thing – I want it all!!!”.  Ta-da!  I plan on doing a whole series on my journey from Blogger to WordPress to today so look out for that in the future.  I know when I was switching and looking for help, other blogger’s posts about their journeys helped me immensely!!!

Just this past week I also started a job!  No more lunch-lady land for me this year!  I work at our county’s main branch of the library!!!  I’m a page!  I put books away and assist the staff and I’m so completely and utterly jazzed about it.  How entirely geeky am I?!  I’m such a nerd, I joined ALA, too!  I can stare at books all day!  I don’t deal with the public; it’s so nice to tune out and work my brain with Dewey Decimal.

And to top off my book-centric two weeks, I attended two book signings!  I attended Courtney Allison Moulton’s Shadows in the Silence launch party and Kim Harrison’s final stop on her Ever After Tour.  I’ll have posts for those later this week 🙂

  • Around-the-BlogosphereApril at My Shelf Confessions did a very detailed review of Riffle.  You know, that website/Facebook app that sent out invites to join and check out their new site?  I joined way back when but I never really did much with it.  April goes step by step through the site and shares her thoughts.  Did you join?
  • BBTC, BBTC, BBTC!!  Rachel at Parajunkee and Ashley at The Bookish Brunette have created what looks to be a spectacular Twitter conference.  The Book Bloggers Twitter Conference will be held April 1st thru April 7th, 2013.  There are so many panels scheduled that are important to a blogger that you’ve just got to go the site and check it out!  I paid $40 last year to attend a similar conference for the same, if not less, information.  This is going to FREE (as free and as fast as your Twitter skills are).
  • Amy the Book Loving Mom and Giselle at Xpresso Reads are organizing a “hook-up”…  of book bloggers!  (heads out of the gutter, girls!)  This will be happening in Boston, MA in August, 2013.  Basically they’re planning on dinner and book swap (if you’re interested in swapping books).  I can tell you, I love getting face-to-face with other book bloggers!  I could sit and talk for hours about books, websites, and nailpolish.  And you don’t need to be from Boston!  Drive, fly, swim…  and check out Giselle’s post about the event so far.
  • Fiery Hot Reads / Icy Cold Nights – Have you been following????  There are still a ton of giveaways happening and it doesn’t end until March 1st!!  Go HERE for the full rundown on the author spotlights and giveaways.  This awesome event is brought to you by Kimba at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer, Christy at Love of Books, Veronica at Mostly Reviews, Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings and Cambria at Cambria Hebert.

Jackie at Literary Escapism was super-duper generous to me!  She has been in the process of converting all her physical books to ebooks and I was able to drop by her house and score a huge stack of books that I actually have on my wishlist.  There are just too many books for me to sit here and list.  Instead, just go follow Literary Escapism – hey, it’s the least I can do!!

These are all signed books that are waiting for homes.  Homes that could be YOURS!!  I’m going to be having giveaways soon for these!!!  I’ll have more details coming when I post about the Courtney Allison Moulton launch party / book signing I attended last weekend.  I’m such a tease.  And yes, I met and spoke with each one of these so down to earth, normal, super fantastic, “oh my God, they are so nice” authors.  Yeah, you wish you were me (ha!!!!).  All three of these authors are Michigan authors.

  2. What a great haul! I love your blog design, I really like Rachel’s design but i couldn’t afford her LOL

Are you liking WordPress over Blogger? I’m thinking of going to a self hosting site cos Google is constantly taking things off and changing things 🙁 How hard was it to transfer your blog over? Were you able to move the design as well or did Rachel did your blog after you moved to WP?

I moved from Blogger to WP and got the hang of it before I had a redesign. Maybe try a WordPress.com free site first to see if you like it. Then pay the “big bucks” for the self-hosted site on WordPress.org? Because I pay a fee for my site to GoDaddy like a regular site. 🙁 And talk to your designer, they may be able to give you the PSD files so you can build your site when you get to WordPress 😉 WordPress is definitely a growth experience!!!
