This week New Leaf Literary & Media is celebrating all that is New Adult!

All week long they will be discussing what exactly makes a book “new adult”, why it’s so addictive, and sharing their opinions on why they love new adult so much.

Because I am completely and utterly addicted to new adult fiction, I’m taking part in this week long celebration as much as I can.  I’ll have excerpts from some new adult books that New Leaf Literary represents and I’ll most definitely share why I LOVE NA!!!

Today we’re kicking off the celebration by discussing WHY we luuurrvve new adult fiction.  For the sake of an easy description, I consider new adult as books with characters who are aged 18-25 years; you know, “new” adults!

Suzie Townsend of New Leaf discusses why she loves new adult after 9am est today HERE.  You can also follow the discussion on Twitter with the hashtag #naaddict.

Why do I love the new adult genre?  In no particular order:

  • I love that it’s the perfect mix of YA and hot romance – for those times when you don’t want to read smut but want more than hand holding
  • Every new adult book I’ve read so far has been a very quick read for me – an evening or a two day read for me!
  • Almost every story reminds me of my awesome years in college when anything could happen in love (and did!)

About Kristin

Kristin has to ensure she gets her minimal requirement of "happily ever after" books in between those books that contain cliffhangers and never-ending story arcs. It's for her family's sake. When not reading, she's homeshooling her 10-year old son, watching cartoons on TV, or taking a nap.

I have found that the new adult category is filled with young people who seem very real. Their problems could exist. The drama level is also very believable.

  2. I usually read YA. But my kids are 15 and 18 and I get tired of reading about the same thing I live through everyday. (I don’t mean vampires, werewolves, or zombies in my life, but just the drama that goes with high school aged children.) I enjoy New Adult because the characters are a little bit older and are at the next phase of their lives.

  3. One of the greatest reasons I love NA books is the ages of the characters. Being in my 30’s sometimes YA books are a little too immature. Books about older characters, but not necessarily adult fiction, appeal to me. Plus all the angst, romance, intensity, first loves, etc…what’s not to love?!

I love New Adult because the characters in books of this genre and the situations theses characters face are all very relatable. Thanks for this amazing giveaway! 🙂

I think this genre aims at people who are in the age bracket whereby they are still newly independent, grappling with their social identity, finding their footing in the world. It’s interesting to read about how they figure themselves out in life and love.

  6. I am absolutely obsessed with New Adult, because not only is it like young adult but with SMUT but also because it is about characters who are my age so it is SO easy to relate to.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

NA covers such an exciting period of change. There’s still some of the figuring out what you are and where you fit into the world as in YA, but the stakes are higher and the angst is lower.

I love that it is less love at first sight and more depth to the relationships, but not full on hardcore romance.

New adult leaves you with a fresh new outlook of the story line and it can be addictive to read!!!
