Today I’m participating in the blog tour for Bethany Lopez’s Indelible. I was attracted to this new adult story because it’s story was slightly different than anything else I’ve read in this crazy new genre.

About the Book:
After a year of partying, Samantha decides to buckle down and focus on college. Things are going great until a one-night stand leaves her pregnant and alone. Raising a child while going to school isn’t easy, but Sam is determined to be strong for her daughter. She doesn’t have time for guys or relationships, and takes great care to protect her child and her heart.
Judd doesn’t fit the mold of a college ballplayer. His long hair and tattoos may fit the life he’s created for himself, but baseball is the one thing he takes seriously. When he meets Sam, he’s immediately drawn to her curves and refusal to put up with his crap. When Judd learns the truth, can he handle the responsibility that comes with loving a single mother?
Sam yearns for the fire that Judd fuels in her, but her child’s needs have to come first. Can two people at different stages in their life find a way to make a life together?
I’ve been reading a lot of new adult lately. My brain is quite addled with it. Young kids living the life, acting like idiots with nothing to lose, add in some emotional baggage, hot, super-charged chemistry and falling in love and I’m hooked!!! Ahh, reminds me of the good ‘ole days (ha!). So when Indelible came along looking different than everything else out there, I had to give it a try.
Yep, glad I did because I always love to read smart characters dealing with the unpredictable craziness of love.
Samantha (Sam) had just turned around from her crazy early years in college to get serious about school when the unthinkable happens. She gets pregnant after a one night stand. But with incredible family support, personal strength, and dedication, she stays in school while raising her daughter on her own. She’ll go on the occasional date but she never, ever introduces them to her daughter. She is wicked smart on how she works a date with a guy into her schedule.
Case in point Judd… he tries to pick her up at a bar but she’s having none of it. Judd is all tattoos, long hair, and hot bod moving through the bar. Of course Sam notices him but she’s too smart for a guy like him. So she’ll meet him at a coffee shop, when she’s normally there studying for school. No pressure, super smart… and it’s got Judd intrigued.
Judd is finishing school and playing his last year of college baseball. He’s not sure what his plans are after college but baseball is definitely important to him. And he is pretty good at it.
And here lies the conflict to our love story. Two people attracted to each other but at different places in their lives. Sam has her school and her daughter’s future to be concerned about. Judd is just waiting to get out of school and start his future.
Honestly, why even bother dating? It’ll never work out so why waste your time, right? But the chemistry that Ms. Lopez writes into the story has you thinking that these two can’t give up on each other. You end up rooting for them to make it. You just can’t stop reading until you know they’ll end up together!
This story is so straightforward, fast and fun – I barely realized I was near the end of the book when I got there!
Sam’s POV is so fun to read, especially as a mom, because Ms. Lopez nails the drama of having a two year old. I imagine she’s depicted a single mom well (I can’t say for sure because I’m married). Even though this is such a short story, Ms. Lopez touches on so many struggles a young single mom goes through. Honestly, if I was faced with getting pregnant so young, I wouldn’t have handled it half as well as Sam does in the book. It’s so nice to read a positive story in this respect 🙂
Judd is such a “typical guy” who ends up showing his soft side as he works through some family issues and gets to know Sam. You’d think I’m easy or something because I’m always saying I love all the guys in the books I read. But seriously, Judd won my heart with his balance of hardness, sexiness, and teddy bear-ness (it’s a word!). Getting these two together was effortless to read.
Add in a small twist to the story and one of the most fabulous endings to a book I’ve read in a long time and you’ve got a really sweet, easy summer read that’s still different than most everything else out there.
