The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer and it’s a chance to showcase new books and re-cap your week of blogging.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I had a fabulously quiet week!  My short break ended up being a longer break than originally planned but I’m actually “feeling” my review writing again.  I swear, the last review I wrote literally took me a week to write!  I just wasn’t feeling witty and words were not coming together to form sentences.  Oh the torment.

With Easter a memory and my son’s birthday party finally over and done with I can finally relax and look forward to a girl’s weekend in Chicago coming up the first weekend in June.  For my son’s birthday, I did an Adventure Time theme and if you follow me on Pinterest, it’s no secret I LOVE all over that awesome cartoon.  Here’s some pics, including the “Jake” cake I made him.  Don’t be too impressed, the cake inside was undercooked (luckily no eggs were involved in the batter!):

If you don’t know it by now, I work every evening at the main branch of our local public library.  I absolutely LOVE my job and the people I work with.  It’s a small library system, we’re the headquarters per se, and we don’t have a lot of funding.  There’s also union involved; I don’t even want to get into all that.

Because I have the BEST boss ever and the YA librarian knows I know my shit, I get to do a lot more than my job title.  Every month I do the DVD display.   This month I had a great time researching and mixing books into the display of books to movies.  Like I said, it’s not much, we didn’t own a lot of the books I wanted to feature, and I do the signage at home on my Photoshop but here it is:

Well, enough of my silliness.

Last month I swore off ARCs, book tours, anything that put more review books on my pile.  I won’t lie… I almost made it.  I started requesting again on Monday this week.  I suck.

The Prince of Venice Beach by Blake Nelson

Broken Hearts, Fences and Other Things to Mend (Broken Hearts & Revenge #1) by Katie Finn

The Three by Sara Lotz

(not shown) The Lost (The Lost #1) by Sarah Beth Durst

When Mr. Dog Bites by Brian Conaghan

When we were going through our box of books from Baker & Taylor, we couldn’t figure out what to make of this book.  And then after finding the book description on the inside, we just couldn’t resist.  So I’m the first one to get it in our little group of library book geeks* to read it first.

Thank you, Baker & Taylor for our boxes of books!

*library book geeks = my best work friends who I seriously talk books with.  The YA librarian who I’ll refer to as “Too Smart” b/c she’s too smart to be at our library and an Ass’t Branch Librarian I’ll refer to as “New Mama” – she’ll be popping any day now so I gave her the copy of “The Lost” I found in the adult ARC pile.

Thank you Random House, HarperCollins, author Christine Bell, Sourcebooks Fire, and Macmillan Publishing!!

The professional

I’m cheating on The Professional because I pre-ordered it for a phenomenal $3.79 on Amazon for my Kindle and I wanted to share.  It’s available at this special price until it’s released on May 6th (Tuesday!).  The publisher said the price was $3.99 but my price was $3.79 (I have a Prime account, maybe that’s why?).  Double check your price before you hit any buttons 🙂  Here’s the LINK for the Nook book.

You are Mine

This was recommended by Michelle at Reading is Better Than Real Life and I had actually been meaning to check this one out.  I think it’s only 99¢ right now on Amazon.

How was your week last week?

… and yes, Christy, you can stop laughing now.

About Kristin

Kristin has to ensure she gets her minimal requirement of "happily ever after" books in between those books that contain cliffhangers and never-ending story arcs. It's for her family's sake. When not reading, she's homeshooling her 10-year old son, watching cartoons on TV, or taking a nap.

Hence the job at the library… too many freebies 🙁 Trust me, wouldn’t happen without the library creds!!! I totally cheated!!!

  1. I try to stop requesting, but can’t do it. I have no willpower. Looks like you got some good books this weekend. I see you also had a really fun time this week. Have a lovely weekend.

  2. That cake turned out too cute!! Sorry it didn’t cook all the way, but something tells me the kids probably didn’t mind too much 🙂 And how cool that you work at a library, I’ve always thought that would a dream job and you did an awesome job with the display. I would really have fun with that too. LOL – I was doing so good not requesting books and in the last couple weeks I’ve managed to get like 5, so I feel ya. Hope you enjoy all your reads!

  4. The cake is awesome! My Mother-in-Law has a cake design business down in Florida. Working at our Library would freaking awesome, but I would never get anything done because I would be busy petting all the books. lol… Enjoy the new books and your week ahead.

  5. I would never laugh at you Kristin! Never!

I have got to stop lying so much.

Remind me to never eat a cake you make. Kidding. That cake looks awesome. That’s all he’ll remember anyway since there is photographic evidence. Just always mention how good his b-day cake was, and he’ll grow up remembering that it was yummy. Yes, I’m evil.
