The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer and it’s a chance to showcase new books and re-cap your week of blogging.

It’s Memorial Day weekend here in the states and I hope everyone is having a wonderful long weekend.  This weekend I’m remembering my Grandfather who served in the Army during the Korean War.

Frank Kuesel, Texas 1945

I’m also remembering my father-in-law who just passed last summer.  He was an amazingly brave Air Force pilot who fought in Vietnam.  He flew right along side Robin Olds (famous Vietnam pilot), who actually called upon Chuck in the Officer’s Club one night to go out on a mission with him.  He was actually a test pilot, too!  You can’t imagine what that does to a person’s body.

Charles Clifton, Air Force Academy

Don’t forget those who died for our freedom…. and take time to thank those who still do 😀

Amazon vs Hachette

In case you missed it, which is highly unlikely, Amazon is using strong arm tactics in its negotiations with publisher Hachette.  The latest article I saw was this one on USA Today.

The article that reflects my opinion closest is this one on Forbes and more details in this related Forbes article – both awesome!

It’s too bad Amazon is staying silent on the issue.  IMHO, it just comes down to business and sadly, this is just the way it is in the business world.  We, the consumer, don’t want to pay a lot for our books and we want our books fast.  Amazon has overhead in the way of distribution centers.  Money has to come from somewhere.  We can’t have it both ways.  Someone has to suffer.

There ARE other places to buy books, though….

Elusive Memories

Can I just pimp a book for a moment?  I’m reading Elusive Memories right now.  It’s only $2.99 on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.  I’m only about 30% through and it’s about a girl who is a prisoner of a group of very bad people and she’s struggling to overcome the memory erasing drugs they are giving her and knowing who to trust.  It’s pretty cool.  But do you see the author up there on that fabulous cover?  Amanda Shofner?  You might know her better as On a Book Bender.  Yep, that Amanda….  😀

About Kristin

Kristin has to ensure she gets her minimal requirement of "happily ever after" books in between those books that contain cliffhangers and never-ending story arcs. It's for her family's sake. When not reading, she's homeshooling her 10-year old son, watching cartoons on TV, or taking a nap.

Thank your family for me, will you? I didn’t mention my hubs but he was in the Navy during Desert Storm and I’m so proud to be married to a veteran. Besides, belonging to USAA is pretty darn awesome – they’ve rocked for us 😉 tee, hee!

  1. Kristin . . . you are just simply awesome. Thanks for the reminder of what this holiday weekend is really about. My grandfathers (and many uncles and cousins as well) were/are also veterans, and we need to remember the people that pay the price for our freedom.

And THANKS also for the Amazon info. I’d heard murmurings and not much else, so I’m glad to know what info is available. You’re right about the business world working this way, but accepted practice or not, it still looks like bullying to me.

I don’t even know what to say about the book haul. Youknowwhatimtalkingabout. I’m just going to pretend that I don’t know that you have it . . . 😉

  2. Very nice tribute to your family members who served. I think it’s great and we all need to remember the reason for the holiday.

I haven’t really followed the Amazon/ Hachette battle closely although I did hear about it. I’ll have to read those articles and get up to speed. I do use Amazon quite a bit, I have to say, although I’ve been trying lately to buy locally and only go to Amazon when I have to. I like my local bookstores a lot and want to support them as much as I can.

  3. Oh shit, that’s Amanda’s book? Awesome! I’ll have to grab it.

I have no idea what’s going on with the whole Amazon thing. I don’t really care though. lol – I probably should, but I don’t. I’m tired of getting pissed over over business crap like that, so … whatever.

Those are some handsome looking men up there. Salute to them both and to all the other service men and women!
