About the book:
Cowboy bikers, fireworks, and romance, oh my…
Wild girl, Mia Sherman, has a secret—she isn’t as fearless as she pretends. Descended from Lonesome Point, Texas’s founding family, Mia grew up hearing tales of an old Irish curse that had followed the Shermans to America. At age twenty-four, Mia is still terrified of the stories, because they aren’t stories. They are a warning about what will happen if Mia allows love and romance into her life. The curse struck Mia’s grandmother and her great-great-whatever grandmother, and Mia knows she could be next. The first-born daughter of every generation is cursed to lose her husband on her wedding night, which is one of the many reasons Mia has sworn off relationships.
Until the fateful day Sawyer Kane rides his Harley into her life …
Rancher turned restoration expert, Sawyer Kane, can’t believe his luck when the feisty owner of the lingerie shop next to his hotel turns out to be the curator of his latest project, a ghost town he’s been sent to restore. He’s looking forward to long, hot days talking history, and hotter nights with Mia, but the redhead with the killer smile seems determined to keep him at a friendly distance. But when a dangerous man from Mia’s past arrives in town, Sawyer finds himself drawn into her inner circle, and into the legend of Lonesome Point itself.
Can true love conquer all, even a centuries-old curse? Mia and Sawyer may be the first to find out.
I challenged myself… to try a lot of something news this year and this book is one of them. Holy moly, this is why my blog is becoming such an eclectic mess of different types and genres of books! I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED this quick, easy, fun, sassy, mysterious, ghostly, small town Texas, surprisingly sweet with, “oh my!”, steamy loving-story. Was that the most grammatically incorrect sentence I could ever write? Probably not, I’m sure I’ll do better in the future. But there are so many adjectives that describe what an enjoyable story this was for me to read.
I found this book on a blog tour announcement for the second book in the series. I don’t normally read “cowboy” or small town settings and honestly, I’ve kind of fallen into contemporary romance kicking and screaming the entire way. The name of my blog IS PARAhangover, as in PARAnormal. Yeah, my blog is becoming a mess of genres.
Since this type of book isn’t in my normal range of review-type of books, I didn’t feel it fair to join the blog tour. So I purchased the first book. NO buyers remorse here!
The story starts out with best friends Mia, Robert (aka “Bubba”), and Ross (aka “Ugly Ross”) out for the night, not exactly sober, and not exactly with the best intentions when Mia pulls out bins of underwear she can’t sell in her lingerie store. Their target? The small town of Lonesome Point and all it’s landmarks, especially one extremely prissy cousin’s gnome collection. When the covert operation begins to fall apart, drastic measures have to be taken, including Mia diving headfirst through a hedge and directly into one HUGE guy by the name Sawyer.
Sawyer is in town to put a bid on a construction project. Circumstances work out that despite Mia’s reluctance to date anyone, she just can’t escape being around Sawyer. I don’t want to spoil any of the “fun” but there’s a ton of story to this relatively short book. We learn several reasons why Mia is hesitant to get involved with anyone. We learn about Sawyer’s past, the town’s past, Mia’s great-great- something or another grandmother’s past. There’s ghosts, bad guys, and family get togethers, just not necessarily all at the same time.
And there’s more! And it totally works!
I loved that Mia was a tomboy and had guys as her best friends. And she’s not dumb – she’s left her small town to get an education in California. Not too shabby.
Sawyer on the other hand is a handful of a man. He’s huge, he’s a gentleman, and he’s got a past that he doesn’t let get in his way. Oh, and of course, he’s movie star hot. Yeah, yeah, typical, I know! But what fun would it be if he wasn’t?
I know I keep saying it but this really was just a relaxing, no-brainer, charming read. I can’t wait to get my hot little hands on the next book, Saddles and Sin, Bubba’s story, which is expected out September 16th, 2014. I read the preview chapter at the end of Leather and Lace and even with a nickname of Bubba, Robert is sounding so adorable!!
NOW it’s your turn to try something new!
Head down to the end of this post for my giveaway. I’m giving away one copy of Leather and Lace (ebook format – Kindle or Nook or whatever you need, provided it isn’t over $5 USD). I’d like to share this book and give someone else a shot at challenging themselves to read something different. Or something you always read… I don’t care! For an ebook, this one runs on the “little bit more expensive” side so I’m happy to spread the book love!!
About the author:
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary Southern romances she loves to read.
She’s married to the man of her dreams, and together they’re raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.
When she’s not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.
