Yawn  It was a quiet week here.  I painted part of our basement in preparation for school to start.  We start school on September 8th.  In case you don’t remember, Jake does online school because our school system currently sucks.  I need to order decorations from Scholastic.com for the walls but other than that….  zzzzzzzz

Around the blogosphere…

Did you see Ashley at NoseGraze’s post about Freedom of Speech?  Fantastic post and if you don’t understand it, I’d be happy to put some spammy comments on your blog for you to delete and we’ll go from there.

#FitReaders 2015

I’m still running.  I try to get out at least 3 times a week but I’ve lost a little of my mojo.  I’ve changed my training plan to Couch to 10K but it’s hard to find a good phone app to work me through it.  So I kind of just go out running.  Meh.

The good stuff…

Bright Shiny New Books

This week was supposed to only have one book on the post.  ONE BOOK.  And then HarperCollins went and uploaded ARCs into Edelweiss.  Everything just crumbled from there.  I have no shame when it comes to Edelweiss, no shame at all.

But first, I’m a huge Monica Murphy groupie!  I met her at RAGT and she is stinkin’ awesome.  She turned me on to her self-pubbed The Rules Book series and I loved the first one.  I still need to write that review (of course) but the second book just came out this week.  It’s $4.99 but she’s worth it in my book (ha! I punned!  Like that never happens.)

I don’t normally pick up Middle Grade books but I HAD to have Pax because of the type of story it is, Jon Klassen is a favorite illustrator of mine, and I’d like to check it out for our library.  Otherwise, Once Kissed is from Cecy Robson and I’d review a takeout menu if she wrote it.  And holy cow!  Are the fantasies hitting the shelves next year for YA or what?!?!?

  1. Online school, I bet you skip a bunch of school system crap that way. I did not see Ashley’s post, but just went and read it. Right on sister! Needs to be said. And loved you comment- ha ha! Hope you have a super week!

Did you see how I’m getting smart and hitting your blog on Saturday? I’m getting smart in my old age 😉

    • K

I think Wendy Higgins is an auto-“buy” for a lot of people! I own her first series but I never got to it – story of my life…

    • K

Ya know, I laid in bed after I got myself up and I was like, “why the heck did I get up?! I could have just done it in the a.m.!” – stupid me! I’m running over and re-commenting 😉

If I didn’t download those babies now, I’d forget about them! And I was good, I didn’t blindly click everything! I read every synopsis carefully. The only book I’m crazy stalking now is “Into the Dim”!! Now I have to go find Christmas books 😉

    • K

I’m a weak, weak, weak person… at least I don’t go to NetGalley anymore. I want my 80%!

Keep up the good fight!! But eventually you’ll need to get some Christmas books and you know where those are…. tee, hee

    • K

I did go a little nuts. Wait until next week when I load up for the Ho-ho-ho Read-a-thon. It won’t be pretty 😀

    • K

DON’T think twice about the fact that I get all those books – I’m whitelisted on HarperCollins b/c of my employment at our library. I’m also a member of ALA and YALSA and I can nominate books for LibraryReads.org. So if you want a short cut to being whitelisted, get a job at a library 😉

Now Kimba and Christy… I’m jealous of those two 😀

  2. At least you’re getting out on a walk (etc) three times a week. I’ve been doing nothing but am (hopefully) starting to do some exercise this week…

    Have a lovely one!

Eh, I’m ALWAYS fine doing nothing. I’ll support your couch warming and you can support mine 😉

  3. Good for you in continuing to run even when it isn’t as much fun. My daughter is doing a couch to 5k and I’m so happy about that. I can’t run anymore, but I try to at least move some…lol. I love the cover of Pax. Good luck with the start of home school! Have a great week.

I KNOW what you mean about not being able to run! I’m so sorry!! My neighbor across the street mentioned to me that she was envious when she saw me running b/c she’s shattered her ankle so many times playing softball that she now can’t run. I truly appreciate my 46yr old body for allowing me to start running at this old age 😉 I love my heat pads! Tell your daughter I said great job and keep it up!!!!!!!!!!

    • K

I may send my 9yr old back to brick & mortar eventually but right now, his school is too crowded and other kids can’t understand what he’s saying. He doesn’t speak clearly. Who needs to be bullied about that? He’s high functioning autistic so there is that, too 😀 I online school is fabulous for those kids wanting to be done with school and won’t focus in H.S. What a joke H.S. is – it’s such a social mess – of course I loved it! tee, hee

    • K

I love Jake’s online school! He has teachers and everything so it’s great for a 9 year old who would just get passed over in a large classroom 🙂

And yes, Reign of Shadows is the one book I’m looking forward to most!!!! Sophie Jordan, baby!!!

  4. Pax, Reign of Shadows, and Shadow Queen have lovely covers.

Good for you with your running! Some is better than none at all .:) Says the couch potato queen.

I don’t stalk Edelweiss like I do NetGalley. How do you know when Harper or any other publisher has uploaded new books?

You don’t get notice – you just have to go in and look. But you’ll see a lump of them all at once. HarperCollins is also Avon, Katherine Tegen, William Morrow so it’ll be, like, EVERYTHING! OH! Wait! I also get an email on Mondays – I’m such a dolt! But it’s an email list for librarians/ALA members, I think. I personally like Edelweiss b/c there’s no review average AND I’m whitelisted there for more publishers.

  5. We finally start school on the 8th here and I can’t wait. I did summer school here at home with my kids, I don’t think I could do it year round so props to you. I tried to resist all the new titles on Edelweiss, I hope I dont’ regret my choice.

  6. I saw Ashley’s post on freedom of speech. It was really well-written and a good reminder for people who like to throw it around like a shield on the internet. I really enjoyed In the Dark and I, too, snagged a fair few of those Harper titles on Edelweiss.

    Have a great week!
