Sunday Post #93: Happy Independence Day

Posted July 3, 2016 in Meme / 20 Comments

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer and it’s a chance to showcase new books and re-cap your week of blogging.

For us in the States, it’s Fourth of July weekend and Friday was Canada Day.  Living in a summer touristy border town, we see tons of traffic on weekends like this.  Forget about trying to shop at a grocery store!

This weekend we are home and enjoying a nice quiet, slow weekend.  The weather is perfect and the neighborhood is relatively quiet.  Heaven!

This week has been crazy, too!  We had a computer “go to sleep” and never wake up so we ran out and bought a new computer.  Before that, my oven decided to stop heating.  That was a $160 repair for a new igniter.   But to balance all the nuisance stuff, I had some fantastic “business” news pop up and I’m enjoying a new project I’m working on.

What are YOU doing this weekend?

June Reading Re-Cap

Last month I read 8 books.  Not too shabby, considering Goodreads tells me I’m behind on my yearly reading challenge by 14 books.  BUT, I did increase my book count this year from 100 books to 150 books so in actuality, I’m right on schedule compared to last year.  Make sense?  Yeah, it’s a bit sketchy….

I finally got THE book I’ve been eagerly waiting for.  Yep, already read it, too!  Thank you to Scholastic!

Does anybody here listen to music… a lot?  If so, may I recommend GooglePlay to play your music on your phone?  I’ve been using it a lot lately and everytime I do, I marvel at how awesome it is!

Like yesterday, I heard a Pearl Jam song on the radio but it wasn’t coming in well.  So I pulled up my GooglePlay app, searched Pearl Jam, and played the song (and some others).  You can also make playlists from all the songs in their system.  Once you’ve added a song to your library, it’s downloaded to your phone so you don’t have to listen to music through the cloud (using up precious data minutes).  My hub’s subscription is $9.99/month, family is $12.99, last time I checked.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  1. Happy 4th, hope you guys have a good one. Fireworks are on Monday but they’ve been going off for the last few nights, and putting on quite the show, so it hasn’t really been quiet here lol. Frickin neighbors. 🙂 Although I don’t really mind… The Blue Angels were up in Traverse.

I listen to music quite a bit but have never tried GooglePlay. I’ll have to take a look.

    • I bet you get a TON of fireworks going off constantly over and up there!!! Sorry 🙁 At least tourists mostly just drive through our town and cause traffic, not too much stopping here b/c we live in all the beachside houses 😉 Hang in there!!

    • Thank GOD for WD My Book or whatever the heck it’s called. They make “MY Cloud” now but I bought mine so long ago the cloud thing was too new for me to trust (cranky old lady syndrome). Plus I have Microsoft 365 so all my pics are saved up in the 1TB of cloud you get with that subscription (phew!). Do you have clouds everywhere? B/c I can’t keep track of all mine o.O

  2. Happy 4th Kristin. Having a quiet weekend sounds absolutely perfect. But ugh the computer and oven issues though. :/
I read P.S I Like You too and liked it okay though some things bothered me. I’m not sure it’s one of my favorite Kasie West books yet.
Anyways, I hope you have a great week ahead and I hope nothing breaks this week!!

    • OHHHH YEAHHHH… I’m totally with you on PS I like You!!! It is NOT one of her best ones, for sure. I wonder if it’s b/c it’s the ARC or what, that it lulled. Or that she didn’t keep any bigger surprise back. It was kind of flat, no? BUT she DOES write fantastic YA romance, right??? Swoon, the scene in the science room!!! I think Kasie needed to spell out Sasha’s roll a little better. Still a 4 star for me, though 🙂

      • Yeah it was missing a certain spark that I expect from her books? My biggest issue was definitely Sasha and the mean girl thing. I’m so over the trope. And I think I was a bit taken aback by the fact that her friend had exchanged spit with him too and the friend broke up with him because of her. It felt a bit like a betrayal.
But yes, the romance was adorable. 🙂 I love the letters!

    • Hee, hee, I know the backroads to our beach! 5 mins top, no lights, and I only have to cross one thoroughfare. It pays to be a local, right? Have a great beach day!!!

  4. Haha! I don’t even go out of the house if I don’t have to on July 4th weekend! I’ve heard a lot about PS I Like You and I hope you enjoy it! Tooooo many people! I don’t listen to music, but Google Play does sound really useful! Have a great week!

  5. I haven’t really tried music like that! Sounds like a neat way to listen. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. You really upped your reading goal this year! I usually only up mine by about 10 more books each year, so last year I had 140, this year 150 I think. But with all the ebooks I’ve been reading, I will definitely reach my goal. Have a great week! 6. Happy 4th!! Bummer about the computer. That sucks!
I never listen to music any more. All my car trips are used for audiobooks or podcasts. Yep, I have grown up to be my mother (I am totally okay with this BTW!)
    Have a wonderful week!

  7. Glad to hear that you had positive news to outweigh the bad.

I think that I must be the only person I know who never listens to music. I just listen to audiobooks.

And I had going out this weekend…traffic is horrid…we had to last minute detour ourselves this morning on the way to the Vets b/c we forgot about the traffic. Shore traffic…ughhh…LOL

  8. Ugh Kristin, it’s like that, isn’t it?! One thing breaks then everything breaks. But exciting to have a new computer and good you were able to get the oven fixed!

  9. I love listening to music, but I find I don’t do it that often on my phone – usually through a CD or one the computer or something. I also have a separate Ipod with my music, but Google Play sounds really handy.

Have a great Fourth of July weekend,
