Sunday Post #98: Now What Am I Going To Watch?

Posted August 21, 2016 in Meme / 25 Comments

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer and it’s a chance to showcase new books and re-cap your week of blogging.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

I’m kind of sad that the Olympics are just about over.  I’m going to miss all the drama of competition and witnessing the world compete.  And, if I’m being completely honest with y’all, I’m going to miss all the behind the scenes drama like the Brazilian women’s synchronized diving team sex scandal (all night?!?!?) and our US swim boys’ drunken antics south of the border (I sort of feel bad for Ryan Lochte – I’ve eff’d up bad but never had the entire world watching).

By the way, I kind of took off last week on the blog.  This coming week I’ll have reviews and maybe even a discussion post… crazier things have happened 🙂

I saw “Kubo and the Two Strings” yesterday with my son and hubs.  It is such a freakin’ sad movie, folks…  I swear, my son was cuddled up with me almost the whole time, poor guy.  It was a good movie, don’t get me wrong, but so, so, sad.

But what held us spellbound was the trailer for this…

I thought I had heard rumblings about this short book being made into a movie but my God…  beautiful.

I finished Bedmates but my review won’t post for a while.  Illuminae blew my mind and my review will post THIS week.  I actually DNF’d Diplomatic Immunity.  I wrote up why in Goodreads, if you care.

After reading Illuminae, I’m wondering if I’m having “patience” issues with books.  I loved Game On and I read that while I read Illuminae.  But then I got to Diplomatic Immunity and that one was just seemed too “young” and silly to me.  So I changed up my genre and went to a favorite author.  Her Renegade Rancher is totally delivering for me (thanks, Ms. Ryan!)

What trouble did you get into last week?

  1. I know, I’m going to miss the Olympics too. and yes- the drama! What fun. I didn’t hear about the Brazilian swim team though??? What did I miss? I better get on that. lol

Looking forward to your thoughts on Illuminae. Heart Stone and This Is Our Story look pretty rad.

    • Tee, hee… just Google Brazillian synchronized diving and I’m pretty sure it will come up. Apparently the one girl has a rep but hopefully the younger girl will be able to find another partner in the future 🙂

    • YUP, Breath of Fire!! Run!!

Now, if you’re in the Olympics and you’re either running or speed walking, I would imagine you’d wear a diaper, no? It’s my hub’s greatest fear when running… bwahahahaha, not really funny tho 🙂

  2. How did I miss a sex scandal at the Olympics :::googles furiously:::: Lochte screwed that one up big time. I really want to read and watch A Monster Calls now!!! Glad you loved Game On. I thought it was sweet 🙂 I am looking forward to reading My Unscripted Life – hope we both enjoy it. Have a great week!

    • Big gaping hole, I tell ya!! I’m so desperate today I’m watching the men’s marathon…. men running… desperate I tell ya 🙂

    • I KNOW!! As soon as I saw the monster drawing on the movie screen, I about screamed for joy!! I should go back to Blacklist. I have to get caught up. I started watching with my mom but since I don’t watch anything really, I stopped watching and then after last season’s ending, I thought, “how can they go on???” Yep, I need to get caught up 🙂

    • Colorful is definitely the word. I had to turn the channel when Tara & Johnny came on though. Could have used fewer of those stories – I’ve seen enough dancing in Carnival 😛

  3. Yay! I’m glad you liked Game On. I’ve been in a slump with reading and need something to pull me out of it. I just got Game On the other day. So, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it so much. Hopefully it’s able to pull me out of this funk and get me back in the game. Oh, and I absolutely LOVE the Kingmaker Chronicle covers! I may need to get them just to display them on my shelves. LoL

    • I have been slumping, too! I think it’s summer or something. I’m just kind of… bored. Especially after reading Illuminae. Nothing is living up to it. I might go waaaaay back and read some old stuff. I don’t know what to do about the slump, either *shrugs*

  4. Oh the drama! I love it! Ryan Lochte was kind of a hot mess this Olympics. His hair was ridiculous, then the lying to cover up his bad behavior? What got into him?!?
    Great book haul!! Enjoy!

    • It WAS hard getting Illuminae into my schedule b/c you really want to read the hardcover – that’s not one you can listen to or even read on a Kindle easily. But so worth it. YOU will appreciate the story!

    • Ya know, I only ran and grabbed b/c Nick liked Game On. I avoided it at first b/c I hadn’t had any luck with Bloomsbury Spark titles before. Oh, that Nick… 😀

  5. Yay, I’m glad you loved Illuminae. That’s a favorite of mine. I am a bit sad the Olympics were over. I mostly watched swimming and gymnastics, but they were fun and exciting!
