Sunday Post #99: Same Thing, Different Sunday

Posted August 28, 2016 in Meme / 29 Comments

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer and it’s a chance to showcase new books and re-cap your week of blogging.

Not much going on here.  Just getting ready to return to school on September 6th.  I spoke to my son’s fifth grade teacher for an hour on Friday and she is awesome!  I’m really excited for this coming year.  Jake was moved up to GT Math so that should actually challenge him 😉

In a couple of weeks after that, we’re driving to Minnesota for a week(ish) to witness my sister-in-law graduate from Nursing School.  Bring on the Mall of America!!!  🙂

Hope you’re enjoying these hot, steamy dog days of Summer!!  We’re finally getting rain!!

Thank you to Hachette & Penguin!!!  I saw awesome reviews for Four Letter Word and I have been wanting to read Shannon Stacey for years.

Super HUGE thank you to Macmillan Library (Talia and Anne)!!!  Caraval was the ONE ARC I couldn’t get my hands on during BEA this year, try as I might.  Freeks was already on my TBR and the cover is amazing!

I need to set this up for y’all…

One thing that always makes me happy is this episode of Teen Titans Go!.  The “bad guys”, The Hive Five, are taking the day off and doing nothing really.  But the Teen Titans keep ruining their days off.  In this clip, Gizmo just wants to be tall and help people.  The song makes me happy EVERY TIME!!!    Enjoy…

What up for your next read?

About Kristin

Kristin has to ensure she gets her minimal requirement of “happily ever after” books in between those books that contain cliffhangers and never-ending story arcs. It’s for her family’s sake. When not reading, she’s homeshooling her 10-year old son, watching cartoons on TV, or taking a nap.

  1. Yeah what’s up with the rain all of a sudden? Not that I’m complaining since my grass needs it. Mall of America sounds awesome- can you believe I’ve never been there? One of these days…

Buried Bodies- like the sound of that one! And fun video… 🙂

    • I KNOW about the rain!! I finally turned off our sprinkler system (don’t want that bill!) What is up with the humidity again, tho??? We don’t live in South!!! And I can’t believe you’ve never been to the MOA!! Although, why would you leave your little tourist town… 😀

  2. I’m glad your son’s teacher is great and you’re happy with them – that’s so important as kids spend SO much of their time at school.

I’m glad you’re getting some rain. Our winter barely appeared here in Australia and I’m dreading summer, but we do have spring first!

    • I’m excited for school so I finally get a routine – I feel like I’ve gotten nothing done all summer! But then I’ll probably complain I’m too busy – I suck at time management 😀 I’m crossing my fingers for you to have a mild summer!!!!!!

  3. Mall of America should be fun! I can’t wait to be back in the States! Asia is very dusty and dry and hot. I’m cranky ALLLLL the time. *sigh*
Anyways, Caraval! I wasn’t sure about it at first but all the hype has me curious! You’ll have to let me know how it is!
Have a good week and I hope your son has a good first day of school and an even better year!!

    • I’ll let you know about Caraval but didn’t you want to read it? Didn’t you get it? It’s, like, on Edelweiss. Are you nervous about having time to read in MASTERS school?? WOOT!!!! Philadelphia is awesome but what is so cool is how close you’ll be to everything!!!! NYC!! But I’m pretty sure there’s ton to do and EAT in Phili 🙂

I never pictured Asia as dusty!! What’s up with that? I pictured it like Thailand, lush, warm and tropical. Boooo!!! Hissss!!!! I’d be cranky too!!! xoxoxo

  4. SO glad you like your son’s teacher!! That is so big. Mall of America sounds awesome. I have to say we had pretty good weather this week without much humidity. That Caraval cover is so pretty. I don’t know if I want to read it but I like to look at it 🙂 Have a great week!

    • I’m just wondering where all our nice 70 degree weather went this year?!?! If you had some, can you send it back our way?!?!? 😀

  5. Sounds like a great week even if it is a little quiet. Sometimes the quiet weeks are the best. Love all your new books I see a few on my TBR list. I hope you enjoy them all. I hope you enjoy the Mall of America it’s such an awesome place to visit. Have a great week!!! Happy reading.

    • I hope my SON enjoys the MOA because that’s how we’re distracting him while we’re away from home and his WiiU (he’s a wee bit addicted. If I get to shop, I’ll be very lucky!!!!

  6. The weather just stinks and needs to go away. 🙂
The Mall of America looks amazing. I think the same person bought the one disaster by us and is making it similar. It opens next year and I have no plans on going until the fan-fair of it dies down. It’s going to be a mess of people when it opens.

I hope your son has an amazing first day!

Have a great week, Kristin! Happy Reading! ox

    • HEY!! I’m so stinkin’ happy for you and Ryan!! Since you’re home, have you thought about homeschooling (K12 or Connections Academy??) They both do IEPs, just so you know. I just thought since you’re getting services in the home… right? All our services are through the school system in my state so… yeah, Michigan sucks right now. We just don’t have people with skills nearby. We should be designated underserved (hahahaha!!).

I love how you call your mall a disaster. We have a mall – I don’t go to it 🙂

      Have a great week!!!

      • I can’t stay home, I work during the week (off only on Friday) and we need both salaries to live lol. Plus Ryan has services at the school he goes to. He is in a special school to deal with his behavior and he has speech, OT and counseling. I would never be able to do all that. The services we have are for when he was in Crisis, wanting to harm himself and others. They are amazing. He gets Therapy and now Behavioral Therapy. Homeschooling would be great if I could do all that and work but I can’t 🙂

Look up the Xanadu in NJ you will see what it looked like it’s by the Meadowland. It was like an acid trip. It was going to be a mall but they ran out of money so now the Mall of America bought it and fixing it to be a normal huge mall. It will be a mess when they open. Avoiding that area is what will be best for a good 3 years 🙂

        • Well, that place IS a mess! And I just saw when I was looking it up they need more money?!?! But I think they scrapped the indoor ski slope (ha!)

  7. It has been miserably hot here in Cinci! Its like living in a hot, wet blanket! Yuck! And, it doesn’t even rain! No, we can’t get actual rain, only humidity of 100%!
    Enjoy your books!!

    • I owe my brother a call but now I’m afraid to… he doesn’t have central air in his little house on Liberty Hill. And NO thunderstorms?!?!?! No wonderful, dark So. Ohio clouds full of lightning and thunder??? What the heck??? That is so not fair!!! Okay, I feel totally worse for you!!! We have wind today… Hang in there!!!!

    • Still homeschooling. He has a teacher every year who actually teaches him and monitors everything he does. I don’t know if would want to be responsible to that degree for my son’s education. This much stresses me out enough 🙂

  8. I hope you enjoy your new books. Glad to see your son is going to be in a better math class for him. I remember being so bored in some classes when I was school because it wasn’t advanced enough. That isn’t fun. Hopefully, he will be more challenged and enjoy this math class more. I was excited (and scared) when I was moved up in eighth grade. I pretty much skipped Pre-Algebra because I got an 100% on every test. But then I had to start Algebra 1 in the middle of the year, which was scary. I was only a month or two behind, which ended up not being bad. You you have a great time in Minnesota. I’ve only been there to change planes. LOL

    • I had such a mixed experience with advanced classes – I got moved up in everything in 4th grade, they literally stuck 12 of us with 5 fifth graders and I kind of hated being cut off. I think it was an experiment or something. It was ALL the 5th graders, too, in ONE huge classroom with 2 male teachers – fun o.O And then in Jr. High I got moved up again and I hated that so I failed out. So we’ll see how he does. It was taking him 2 minutes to do a math lesson so this should be a MUCH better speed for him!! But I can’t imagine switching in the middle of the year and being behind, especially in Jr. High when everything is stressful 🙂

  9. Your son starts in September?! That’s crazy! What state are you in? In Indiana elementary – high shool starts in August. But my daughter’s school district is on a balanced calendar, so she started at the end of July! Anyways, I’ll need to check out Homecoming. I’ve seen it around the blogosphere.

  10. Awesome teachers always rock so I’m glad your sons teacher was awesome. I hope he has a great year! School doesn’t start for another week for my kid and she’ll be a senior in high school. I’m seriously not ready for this. At all. Senior pictures are next week as well and I’m a bundle of nerves. I remember the day that I took my senior pictures like it was yesterday! *sigh*

Awesome book haul you got this week. I’m looking forward to my read of Four Letter Word. I hope I like it.

Have fun on your trip to Minnesota. I’ve always wanted to go to Mall of America.
