Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Have Been On My Shelf Since Before I Started Blogging

Posted August 23, 2016 in Meme / 16 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is long standing meme started back in June of 2010 at The Broke and Bookish.  I have mad respect for the meme and it’s creator.

I have so many reviews to post this week but I wanted to participate in this Top Ten Tuesday because it says so much about how my taste in reading has changed from before I started blogging to over four years later.

First, I had to figure out how to find these books that I own but have never read.  Most likely these books are buried in boxes in my basement by now.  So I opened my Goodreads TBR list and TA DA!!!

So, here are my Top Ten Books
that I really should have read by now…

#10 Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin #1) by G.A. Aiken

#9 The Madison Avery series by Kim Harrison, books 2 and 3

#8 Rosemary & Rue (October Daye #1) by Seanan McGuire – I heard this series was awesome

#7 Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed #1) by Lara Adrian – everyone has read this series, right?

#6 Alien Huntress series by Gena Showalter, books 2 & 6 – those are the only books I own but the series is awesome

#5 Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark #7) by Kresley Cole – just to continue the series I love

#4 Lord of Misrule (The Morganville Vampires #5) by Rachel Caine – ditto

#3 No Mercy (Dark Hunter #18, Were-Hunter #5) by Sherrilyn Kenyon – ditto ditto

#2 On the Edge (The Edge #1) by Ilona Andrews – shame

#1 Magic Bites (Kate Daniels #1) by Ilona Andrews – shame shame

So, as you can see, I used to be exclusively into PNR and UF only.  I’ve gotten sidetracked on some favorite series of mine.  And then there’s the two series I’ve always wanted to start but never did.  By the way, I actually own the entire Karen Moning Fever series but I’m not going to read it.  I didn’t really like the first one much (I don’t care what color her fingernails are painted!) so it’s no loss there.  I need to dump the physical books somewhere.  OH, and Laurell K. Hamilton I’ll get back to some day.

This list above reflects my regrets, really.

So berate me all you like down below….  or just share your regret(s) 😀

About Kristin

Kristin has to ensure she gets her minimal requirement of “happily ever after” books in between those books that contain cliffhangers and never-ending story arcs. It’s for her family’s sake. When not reading, she’s homeshooling her 10-year old son, watching cartoons on TV, or taking a nap.

  1. I’ve thought seriously about trying the October daye books (I even like that name) lol as I want to read more urban fantasy, but I ended up trying another of her series and I have a standalone of hers on tap. Seems like I heard the Morganville Vampires were good too, I don’t know. I’d like to read more vamp stories that aren’t PNR’s ya know? But yeah I’ve found my tastes have changed too just since I started blogging.

    • OMG… I didn’t think about my Kindle *gulp* I’m going to do that tonight! It won’t be pretty but I know I’m okay b/c I was protesting ebooks until after I was blogging a bit – I’m so cray cray!!!

    • WOOOAAH!!! You’re HERE!!! I’m so lucky!!! Yes, I’m in the shame hole this entire summer… hey, at least I finally read Luminae, right?!?! That was a huge shame hole right there!!! Hope you’re having a good trip 🙂

    • E-book box set of Midnight Breed?!?!? UGH! I need to find that and slip that purchase by the hubs!!!! Kindle purchases are not friends of mine 🙁 Such an enabler… 😛

  2. I think we ALL probably have a lot of books we own but never got around to reading. That’s one thing I’ve been trying to do more often – read the books I already own. I don’t have a ton of review books (besides what I got at BEA this year) so it’s been a bit easier to do that, but I still have many, many, many books to go!

    • My hubs used to get mad at me when I kept buying books. It’s much easier to sneak them past him, though with the Kindle. It is still pretty bad. I do literally own all these books up there, though 🙁 so sad….

  3. Ooh, you have some goodies in there. I liked Sword of Darkness by Kinley MacGregor though it’s been ages since I read it that I couldn’t tell you what it’s about.

I read Blue Bloods and enjoyed that one up until I stopped reading it, around Book 4 I believe.

I’ve always been interested in the Fae series by KMM but like a lot of things, I never got around to it. *shrugs* Story of my life.

    • Everybody LOVES and screams how awesome KMM’s Fever series is but I was so meh about it. I was going to give it another shot until she supported her narrator during his pedophile charges… ewwwww. 🙁 Too many books, too little time 😀 Story of MY life too, girl!!!

  4. I completely understand. So many books, so little time. I wasn’t a huge fan of KMM’s Fever series either. I did read it up through Shadowfever, though it was never a favorite series. I agree with you about the narrator thing. I’m done with her. You do have several series in your top ten that I highly recommend. Ilona Andrews for one. Dragon Kin and IAD for another. I hate to say it, but I don’t think you’re missing much by dropping LKH. I finally quit her last year. I was able to deal with the amount of sex that was in the books (I do read erotica too, so that wasn’t a deal breaker), but when I was listening to the most recent book and I was two hours in it was all about the politics about who she was sleeping with and which men she should marry. I couldn’t take it any more. It was like a “how-to” for people wanting a poly relationship. Good luck on getting more of these books into your schedule.

  5. Sam

Quite a few of these have been sitting on my TBR for quite a long time as well. Particularly some of the Kresley Cole and Sherrilyn Kenyon titles. Some Anita Blake books would’ve been on my list as well but I forced myself to admit defeat with that series a few years ago and let go of my unread copies of Cerulean Sins and Incubus Dreams. Otherwise those would’ve been the two oldest unread books sitting on my shelves.
