Just when Nevada Baylor has finally come to accept the depths of her magical powers, she also realizes she’s fallen in love. Connor “Mad” Rogan is in many ways her equal when it comes to magic, but she’s completely out of her elements when it comes to her feelings for him. To make matters more complicated, an old flame comes back into Rogan’s life…

Rogan knows there’s nothing between him and his ex-fiance, Rynda Sherwood. But as Nevada begins to learn more about her past, her power, and her potential future, he knows she will be faced with choices she never dreamed of and the promise of a life spent without him.

As Nevada and Rogan race to discover the whereabouts of Rynda’s kidnapped husband and are forced to confront Nevada’s grandmother, who may or may not have evil motives, these two people must decide if they can trust in each other or allow everything to go up in smoke.

Addictive

I really couldn’t control my all-out sprint from the ending of White Hot, headfirst into starting the last book in the Hidden Legacy trilogy, Wildfire.  The writing team of Ilona Andrews impressed me (yet again) with a satisfying new story that also continues the story arc that has been ongoing since book one, Burn For Me.  I highly recommend (actually insist) that you read this series in order to get the full “experience” out of the books.

If you enjoy great urban fantasy with romance, you will love this series.  It’s set in modern Houston, Texas, it’s about magic found in families.   The families with the strongest magic have the most power and money.

Our indestructible Nevada Baylor has a new client this time around, “Mad” Rogan’s ex-fiance.  Nevada is asked to find her missing husband.  Awkward.  Is this kidnapping part of the bigger plans of a group to take over Houston?  Of course Rogan will be close by to find out and to keep tabs on Nevada.

I could read this series over and over again and never get bored with it.  The story and the writing are that good.  Ilona Andrews writes the best descriptions to scenes and people that really spell out for me what is going on or how exactly a person looks.

“He moved like a former jock who hadn’t quite gone soft, mostly because he didn’t know how.”

“He turned and saw me.  Surprise slapped his face.  He didn’t think I was coming over.  He thought I was mad at him.  Foolish, foolish Rogan.”

Or just with inner dialogue, you know exactly what each person is thinking or the direction the scene is going.  I sincerely adore Ilona Andrews’ writing style.  I just can’t get enough of them!

Besides being great writers, their imaginations are off the charts.  Some of the action sequences they came up with in the story, especially the “final battle” (squeel) were off the charts-urban fantasy-WTF moments!  For those who’ve read the book, without spoiling anything… Lenora Jordan?  Don’t you want a side story about her?

The cherry on top?  The authors managed a “stand up and cheer” ending that still left some questions unanswered.  Will there be more books in this series?  I bet the proverbial farm there will be.  But as far as “happily ever after” for Rogan and Nevada are concerned, I stood for multiple ovations!  And I’ll keep standing until I get an encore… if you know what I mean (wink, wink, nudge, shove).

About Ilona Andrews

Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

They have co-authored two NYT and USAT bestselling series, the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge and working on the next volumes for both.

Thank you for the review . This has been one series that has been in my pile to read for some time. I’ll definitely read it next . 😊

  2. I honestly can’t wait to read this book, of course, I need to read White Hot first. But Book one was simply amazing!! Glad this series has been awesome. You definitely have me super excited to pick this up soon.

  3. I would offer you my first-born child for a peak at the advance copy…but I suspect that wouldn’t be much of an incentive. More of a reason to block me from your blog. So, never mind. I can wait a few more…oh wait. It’s out. Why hasn’t my copy arrived in the mail? Arghghghghgh!
