Sunday Post #117: Is It Really Me?

Posted July 2, 2017 in Meme / 24 Comments

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer and it’s a chance to showcase new books and re-cap your week of blogging.

Hi everybody!  I don’t know if anyone will notice my post today but you’ve got to start somewhere, right?  Why not on a Sunday Post…

I figured I’d try and get back into blogging at the halfway mark of 2017 and hope for the best.  The first half of the year just really depressed the hell out of me.  As succinctly as I can put it, I think most people on social media, the internet in general, on TV, and in Hollywood have lost their brains.  No one is thinking, everyone is reacting, and everyone is mean.  And I couldn’t seem to get away from it.  Having diagnosed depression, my condition got worse.  I’ve just recently gotten out from under my cloud (thank you, yoga!!)  So here I am.

And yes, I still watch a lot of cartoons.  They make me happy.

I have continued to read these past few months.  Since I last posted in March, I’ve read 20 books.  There have been a few DNF’s, too, but I make sure I don’t count those.  So, needless to say, I’ve got a buttload of reviews to write!!!  I am buried!!  But in the best way possible 🙂

I’ve backed off taking books for a while but I just recently took a few new books.

Thank you to Disney-Hyperion, HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, and Macmillan!!!  Except for one book, I have been pondering these titles for awhile, kind of waiting to see if I really wanted to read them or not.  Last week I just finally said, “screw it” and downloaded them.  What the hell, right?   Early reviews for all of them are good 🙂

And have an awesome Fourth of July weekend, America!!!

  1. Yay…so happy to see a post pop up in my Inbox. Yes, I seriously try to limit my social media because it is ugly out there. Your new lovelies are all so pretty. I have luck with Disney-Hyperion Books. Glad to hear you are feeling better! {{{hugs}}}

    • I was kind of scared to tip my toes in but with my work is “calming down” (wink, wink), and I have time again!! And I think I can visit blogs again. It does look like all I have to read is YA but I do have some “grown-up” books from previous weeks 😉

      “Love your body, Larry.”!!!!

    • Yoga is actually hard!! And I think they feel sorry for me in my studio. They see me coming and they make room for me in the back row b/c… yeah… I don’t belong in front of ANYONE 😀

Yay!! Welcome back. I understand about the whole social media too it’s still depressing, but we all have to stick together and see what we can learn from it. I now just ignore the bad stuff and move on. I just tell myself am greatful for my friends and family. I am lucky to be here because in times of darkness we can all shine bright once it’s all over. I also distract mostly myself by either playing video games or reading books ,comics and manga. Watching cartoons also work. Working out also helps , but I mostly just play video games. Can’t wait to see your reviews. I’ll be looking forward into reading them.

    • I wish I could play video games. I only play hand-held Japanese games like Rhythm Heaven or Japanese app games (I’m an odd duck). The hubs is all over Fallout (and the vault app), Prey, my son plays everything on Nintendo and all retro games.

I’m also listening to podcasts but funny, intellectual ones (No politics!!). I love Nerdist and anytime Neil deGrasse Tyson is on. Mark Hamill is good, too, because he is such a genuine geek. I wish life were simple, right?? NO BAD STUFF!! I love it!!! *hugs*

  3. Welcome back!!
Yeah I’ve moved away from Facebook and Twitter just because of all the hate out there. I still read my local newspaper which helps me stay informed about big news but I definitely don’t miss all the Facebook articles and arguments etc.

    • You know where I get all “big” news? BBC, of all places. I kind of like their no-nonsense breakdowns of the issues 🙂

  4. Hey you! How ya been? Yeah it’s crazy. Everything’s so connected now- sometimes I’m tempted to wade in and then I’m like, what’s the point? So I stay out of it lol.

I love the look of Even The Darkest Stars, and that ‘s one badass chica on No Good deed ha !

Have a great 4th!!! Glad to see you back… 🙂

  5. Oh yes…people in general seem to have lost their minds to me. But I’ve found the book blogging community to be mostly positive. I requested Rosemarked but got denied. That’s okay though because I really have too many books that I need to read right now as it is. Hope you enjoy all of your new books! And Welcome back!

    • WTH?? You got denied for Rosemarked?? Oh, that’s right, it’s Disney… they kind of suck on approving people. I never got approved before I was whitelisted so don’t be too impressed that I have it. Maybe it will suck??? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • My knees actually can’t take the running anymore. Running was just too jarring for me and my body. Yoga seems to make me stronger in my core. It’s freaking hard!! And the relaxing of my body at the end helps me untighten my shoulders, where my migraines start. I wish I could run out in the sunshine 🙂 Have you tried it?? It would go great with running, especially the stretching!!!

      I miss you!!! xoxoxoxo

  6. Welcome back, nice to get an old friend back. We have lost so many bloggers this last year. I hope that you are finding postivity and joy even though things have been tough. I know, this last winter sucked, it was depressing ugly not to mention the weather was horrid and I was dealing with my loss. I barely hung onto my sanity. Let’s hope for great books the second half and better feelings toward one another.

    • Indeed, it is a shit show everywhere… All we can do is make a difference in our corners of the world. I’m an elected official in my town. That’s all I can affect… *sigh*

    • I will check out She-ra!!! I’ll take any and all cartoon recommendations 🙂 I saw there are a ton of Anime on Netflix but I haven’t gotten brave enough to venture there. I’m looking for a service that has all the Samurai Jack’s on it – did you know he’s back????? I love that one!!!!!!

I know what you mean about America’s identity these days… what have we become?? I don’t think it was ever this divided under Nixon!! Who are we? Someone “good” needs to unite us all… *sigh*
