Sunday Post #119: It’s Not the Heat, It’s the…

Posted July 23, 2017 in Meme / 18 Comments

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer and it’s a chance to showcase new books and re-cap your week of blogging.

What a week!  San Diego Comic Con started this weekend and news is flowing steady from SoCal about everything Sci Fi, pop culture, movies, television, blah, blah, blah.

It’s hot and humid in southeast Michigan with no rain in sight.  Of course as soon as I say “no rain”, it pours on Saturday 🙂  My tomatoes ended up getting a fungus that’s common in Michigan when it’s humid but my cucumbers are off the hook.

J.K. Rowling announced two new Harry Potter books are coming this Fall!  I finally sorted myself and I’m Hufflepuff!    I was, honestly, kind of shocked when that popped up and I’m wondering if I can do the sorting again because I don’t think I ran through all the answer options.  OOPS.  If you’ve somehow not visiting the awesome site of Pottermore, you really should.  It is a beautiful site!!

I had held off grabbing Jessica Brody’s newest book but I finally succumbed to the synopsis in the end (Thank you, Simon & Schuster).  I saw Melissa De La Cruz on the cover of Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe and thought, “Hmm, I’ll take a look.”  I read the synopsis and couldn’t hit DOWNLOAD fast enough!!!!  I may not be able to hold off reading this one 🙂  Thank you, Macmillan!

Kristen Proby’s Fusion series has been one I’ve been reading and enjoying; I like the girl’s friendship.  I took a chance, left my comfort zone, and picked up a non-fiction book about a mother and her autistic son and their adventures in life.  I’ve only read the prologue and Ms. Newman’s no-nonsense take on life is completely refreshing and I think I will end up really enjoying this read…. phew.  Thank you to HarperCollins for both of these 😀

On Thursday this past week I was completely shocked to hear the news that Chester Bennington, lead singer of the band Linkin Park, took his own life.  Chester’s voice has been the soundtrack to my life for many years.

I adore many Linkin Park songs but the one I sing most often with Chester is this one.  Please, enjoy.

Please…  Have a great week 🙂  Life is too short!

About Kristin

Kristin has to ensure she gets her minimal requirement of “happily ever after” books in between those books that contain cliffhangers and never-ending story arcs. It’s for her family’s sake. When not reading, she’s homeshooling her 10-year old son, watching cartoons on TV, or taking a nap.

  1. You got rain? We went to a hot air balloon festival over here, it was overcast all day but the rain held off. Humid though.

    • I can’t wait to see you post next week b/c I can’t keep track of all news from SDCC. It’s slightly overwhelming 😀

    • SHHHHHH…. I’ve only read the first one but saw the movies… just like you!!! You are soooo not alone. But the Pottermore site is so flippin’ cool, you can’t help but get swept up in it all 🙂 YOU should check it out anyways!!!!

  2. We just got rain last night and I think some more is in the cards for today. It has been so hot and gross out. I am arGryffindor 🙂 I am loving the ComicCon news coming out. I love listening to the interviews on EW radio too. Oh nice new shiny books – enjoy. Have a great week!

    • I totally forgot about checking EW!!! There’s so much news from SDCC, I can’t keep up!! Thanks for tip, inadvertently 😉

  3. It’s rained like crazy here the last couple of days. Sorry about your tomatoes.
I am JEALOUS of the SDCC news coming out. I just want to go ONCE! Is that too much to ask! 😉 lol

I am loving the idea of the new books, I really want the Hogwarts a History. It’s such an amazing world and having text books from the school would be so cool!

I hope you have a great week, Kristin! Happy Reading! ox

  4. I had no idea that Rowling had decided to write more Harry Potter books…that is just awesome!! I am curious to see what will happen. Should be exciting.

It was pretty sad to hear about Chester Bennington, even though I wasn’t a linkin park listener when I was younger, many of my friends loved them. It always breaks my heart when I hear when someone takes their life.

Hope you are enjoying your summer so far.

  5. I would love some rain here, as well! The heat index this past week stayed pretty firmly around 110 each day….
I was so excited when you mention new Harry Potter books– too bad they aren’t novels though. Pottermore is really cool– though I heartily disagree with the house it tries to sort me into 😉 I’ve deleted accounts and tried again and it still doesn’t realize that I belong in Ravenclaw.

  6. I’m a Hufflepuff too! Welcome to the club 😀 (or, um.. House :D) I was also shocked at first too, but then I realized it works out. My character traits ARE Hufflepuff and I think I like it now. The house is underrated 🙂
And I haven’t seen those books around yet!

  7. I’m rereading Harry Potter right now, so I’m super excited to hear about the new books. When I saw it on FB I immediately checked the date to make sure it wasn’t a reposting of an April fools joke… and then I Squeed 🙂 I kind of waver between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff – I think I really need the sorting hate to decide where I belong!

Too bad about your tomatoes, but yay Cucumbers. I hadn’t heard about the Linkin Park singer 🙁 I grew up listening ot them, though it’s been a while. Very sad.

    Have a great week!

  8. I think all the rain must’ve come south of you because it has been monsoon season here in Ohio. I think I’m going to start building an ark soon. And boy is it hot and with the humidity, I think I will stay indoors. I was so sad to hear about Chester Bennington. I’ve been a fan for years too. Plus so soon after Chris Cornell. 🙁 I hope that they have both finally beat their demons or got whatever peace they were looking for. Have a great week.

  9. Ooh, you’re growing tomatoes and cucumbers? I love both of those! Good luck with that. I look forward to reading your reviews for the books you’re reading. 🙂

I’m still so sad over Chester. I’m listening to all of my favorite LP songs on repeat. 🙁
