Sunday Post #128: If I Knew I Was Coming I Would Have Baked A Cake…

Posted January 28, 2018 in Meme / 27 Comments

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Reviewer and it’s a chance to showcase new books and re-cap your week of blogging.

I wasn’t planning on posting anything this week. But for some reason, I just felt like I wanted to CONNECT with everyone out there. So here I am.

Seems like everyone I care about is having the worst January ever. If you are, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Yep, I read minds. Didn’t you know? 😀

Me? Knock on wood I’m finally healthy after kicking my sinus infection (took forever). My lungs are still a little “gurgle-y” but not as bad as before. I have energy again so it’s ALL GOOD!! Yoga, yoga, yoga!!!

Have you looked at your RSS feeds lately?

This past week I was trolling through my Bloglovin’ feed and I noticed that some of my favorite feeds (blogs) had some “odd” images come up for the “featured” or main image of the post in the feed. For instance, instead of the book cover for a book review, I would see an Amazon “buy” button or any other icon button from the post.

Bloglovin’ uses your RSS feed to pull your blog posts. If you don’t have images in your RSS feed, Bloglovin’ won’t be able to find images and pull them. Another reason Bloglovin’ states that your images might not be showing up is that your images are too large. They should be under 2MB in size.

I use a plugin to add images to my RSS feed. The plugin I use hasn’t been updated in over 7 years so I’m not even going to mention it but apparently it works. If you’re on WordPress, you should be able to easily find a plugin for RSS images if you need one.

The other thing I do is compress all the images on my blog. I use JPEGmini. I bought it about 3 years ago and I don’t regret it. Ashley at Nose Graze recommended it at the time.

A super HUGE thank you to Sourcebooks, Sarina Bowen (Nina!), and Macmillan.

Stay warm and healthy!

  1. Hey how’s life on the east side? 🙂 Our snow finally melted- it’s about frickin time! My January’s been okay but everyone I know is sick. Somehow I avoided it (knock on wood).

The raging Ones- I’ll need to find out more about that one.

    • I’ve decided we’re not leaving the house! Meijers and that’s about it 😉 And it seems to be the year of UF!! Woot, woot!!!

  2. I’m glad you wrote a post to connect with us this week, Kristin! It’s always a pleasure to catch up with you 🙂

Yeah, I have looked at my bloglovin’ feed, and I have no idea why the wrong images show up on some of my posts. My images are all less than 1MB, so that should not be the problem. I will have to investigate further to see what I can do. I had this same problem with Google+ a while ago, and I was able to disconnect my Google+ account, reconnect it and then it worked. That won’t help with bloglovin, though 🙁

I am so excited for Brooklynaire! I love Sarina Bowen’s hockey players – they are SO hot 😀

Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • I have no clue what the deal with YOUR Bloglovin’ feed is!! I wish I knew, girl,,, sorry 🙁 I’ll get my magic wand out later…. ha!

    • Ya know, I actually had to hire a consultant to facetime me for $60/hr to fix my RSS feed about 5 years ago – I suck that much on making the thing work. Granted, I had moved from Blogger to WordPress, but I totally get the headache (atom or no atom, wha????)

  3. Well, I can’t say I’m having the WORST January, but I can say I could have had a better January 😀

I have noticed the Bloglovin’ image thing and it annoys me to no end, I have no idea how to fix that. What is the RSS plugin you use called? Either way, thank you loads for sharing, I didn’t know how to solve this problem 🙂

    • My plugin is called “WP RSS Images” by Alain Gonzalez. But I’m SURE there are better out there… Look for one that has 100,000+ downloads and tons of stars on reviews 😉 I don’t dare fiddle with mine (crosses fingers).

  4. OMG, you got a copy of The Darkest Star?! I swear I’ve been waiting on a Luc book for the past five years and the closer it gets to release, the more impatient and irate I’m getting, lol.
    Hope it is AWESOME!

  5. I have an RSS image plug in but I still notice sometimes on Bloglovin’ it doesn’t use the feature image. My blog doesn’t allow me to upload any image that is more than 2mb either. Its just weird.
Glad you are finally getting over that sinus infection!

    • Freakin’ A… I have no clue then!! I literally Googled the problem for Christy and Lexxie and I came up with Bloglovin’s answer above. I know why mine is working but Kim said her’s doesn’t work sometimes, too. *hands in air* I have no clue, girlie 🙁 Sorry…

  6. I am glad you connected. Happy to hear you are feeling better. January is just a blah month. I always take a deep breath when I get through it. So far, knocking on wood, it has been okay for me, we had some illness, but nothing too terrible. I take that back, the weekend I had stomach flu was downright awful, but other than that, we are plugging through it. Hugs to you!

  7. I am sorry to hear that you haven’t been feeling very well, so I hope you get to feeling better soon and I ADORE Yoga. My fitness program has a yoga section and I love doing it a couple times a week. Its great for meditation and for mental health as well as physical too.

I have had a great month, I know others have been suffering from the winter blues, but its been a solid month and good start for the year for myself so I have no complaints.

    • Ya know, MY month hasn’t been bad, either. I actually kicked that sinus thing so that’s good! But jeez, everywhere I turn I have a friend who’s really sick or has a husband near death 🙁 I wish I wasn’t joking. I can’t wait for February!! We’ll be strong for everyone, right?!

    • I found it on Edelweiss but look on NetGalley under Macmillan (Wednesday Books is a new imprint of theirs). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
